Adult Sunday School

Sunday School – it’s for Life! Are you looking for a way to make connections, study scripture, and apply biblical principles to your life?  Visit one of the 20 Adult Sunday School classes at First Methodist!  There are a variety of classes and studies to meet your needs.  For more information or to get connected with a Sunday School class, contact Becky Poor, Director of Christian Education at 383-4777, ext. 231 or becky@firstmethodist.org .

We have over 20 adult groups meeting every Sunday morning. All classes meet from 9:40-10:40 AM. Nursery is provided from 8:15 AM to 12:15 AM for babies through kindergarten. Visit the Welcome Station in the gym for directions to any of our Sunday School classes or come by the Church Office for a personal escort to a class.

Aldersgate - 35+  Using a variety of materials the class engages in lively discussion of the day’s lesson as they wrestle with the scripture and what it means for Christians today. The group supports a number of mission projects and missionaries.
Location: Adult Building, Room 106

College - Coming from a variety of places, the group enjoys experiencing God’s love together while at school. All are welcome to join as the members discover what God is going to teach them about living life to its fullest.
Location: Sanctuary Building Business Office (Second Floor)

Colloquium - 50’s-60’s. (Young As You Feel) Enjoys special topics, as well as series which relate scripture to life in the world today. Emphasizes Christian growth through Sunday School and numerous social events.
Location: Youth Building- Colloquium Room (Behind W. R. Aldrich Chapel on the first floor)

Community - 30’s-40’s. This group seeks to grow spiritually in relationship with God and neighbor. The class uses a variety of resources and approaches to encourage class discussion, apply Christian principles to life situations and deepen personal faith. Christian community is enhanced with small groups, prayer, socials and mission projects.
Location: Ory Parish Hall, entrance off of the gym.

Connections - 20-40’s, Single.  Studying a variety of topics important to young adults, the group centers its discussion-style lessons primarily on scripture as a guide for daily living. Members have regular social events and mission projects.

Cornerstone - Married Couples. This group joins in studying scripture from a very practical “What does this mean for how I am to live” standpoint. Through various fellowship gatherings, care ministries, and mission projects, the group supports one another and reaches out into the world.
Location:  Lower Level (Basement) Room L02

Covenant - All ages. Focuses on Bible study using a variety of curriculum with a lecture/discussion format. This class is mission oriented supporting numerous projects monetarily and with hours worked. Fellowship includes an annual spring crawfish boil and a Christmas party.
Location: Adult Building, Room 115

Good News - All ages. Lecture and discussion on topical studies, seasonal studies and Bible study concentrating on books of the Bible, as well as prominent biblical personalities.
Location: W. R. Aldrich Chapel

Keystone - Mid 30’s-40’s. Strives to increase biblical knowledge and spiritual discipline through Bible studies of topics as well as addressing current issues from a Christian perspective. This is combined with a mix of service projects and social gatherings.
Location: Lower Level (basement), Room L08

Kum Dubl - “Jazzy” Older Adults. Studies God’s word and enjoys Christian fellowship. They use the Adult Bible Studies, to study the meaning and authority of the Bible for“everyday” Christian life.
Location: Adult Building, Room 107

Men’s Bible - Men of All Ages.  A small, informal group who discuss and examine details and events recorded in the Bible. Biblical teaching is  related to daily living using the Adult Bible Studies.
Location: Adult Building, Room 118 (Adult Parlor)

Milestone - Mid 20's-30's married couples. Couples seeking to strengthen their relationships with God, each other, their families and the community through study and social gatherings. Lessons include topical and seasonal studies with an emphasis on class discussions. Members participate in various mission projects and attend an annual crawfish boil, Christmas party and other social events.
Location: Adult Building, Room 113

Brand New! Perspectives- A group of Young Adults in their 20s and 30s struggling with questions of Postmodern Christianity through scripture, discussion, and putting faith into practice through mission work in the community.  The group is comprised of both singles and married couples.  Socials and parties happen often, so visit the church website for more information.

Rings ‘n’ Ivy - 50+. Studies vary between religious and secular topics led by members of the class and a variety of guest speakers. Members enjoy fellowship through study together and frequent social gatherings.

Sisters in Spirit - Women of all ages. Women of all ages and stages of life gather to study the Bible each week to see how God’s grace is present in their lives and what can be learned about how we are to live as Christians today.
Location: Youth Building, McKenzie Library

Tharseon - Older Adults. Tharseon uses the Adult Bible Studies. They are a group with strong ties in fellowship, music, celebration and support of First Church. Class members gather to enjoy food and fellowship throughout the year.

The Seekers - Mixed Ages. Using a variety of biblically based material, the group concentrates on faith application for today. Lively discussions and frequent fellowships and mission projects are part of the mix for this group with diverse backgrounds and ages.
Location: Lower Level Room L10

Wedding Ring - Older Adults. Chooses a variety of studies and curriculum ranging from current topics to in-depth study of scripture. The class shares in potluck suppers on a regular basis.
Location: Adult Building, Room 112

Wesley Fellowship - 40’s-50’s. Supports one another through active prayer and caring in the spiritual journeys that God has called each of his children to make. Throughout the year they enjoy opportunities for fellowship through various socials and mission projects.
