Covenant/Wesley Groups

Sun-School
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."

Methodism was born out of the desire for a more disciplined life of study, prayer and accountability. Just as the early Methodist movement was a source of renewal and awakening, Wesley Groups have been a source of renewal and transformation in the life of First Church. They have proven to be one of the most meaningful additions to the life of First United Methodist Church in recent years.

What? Wesley Groups are more than a program, they are a lifestyle. Wesley Groups are small groups that practice accountable discipleship.

Why? To be intentional about living faithfully as disciples of Jesus Christ through fellowship, prayer, study, group accountability and service.

Format? Wesley Groups gather for a time of fellowship, sharing, and prayer and Bible Study.

When? Each group sets their own meeting times. The meetings last one hour to ninety minutes. They start promptly and end on-time.

Where? In various locations around the city.

For more information concerning Wesley Groups, please contact Rev. Katie McKay-Simpson at 225-383-4777, ext. 253, or katie@firstmethodist.org.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
covenant_umw
United Methodist Women - definitely not just another club!  A group of women committed to serving the needs of children and other women, both at home and abroad, have been actively involved at First Church for over 130 years.  With nearly 200 women in  6 groups, or Circles, a deep fellowship develops through caring concern for each other. The Circles meet monthly, with three of the groups meeting during the daytime, and three in the evening.  Programs are interesting and timely. Meetings are enjoyable and filled with good-natured laughter, refreshments, and times of sharing both the concerns and joys of members.

Ladies of all ages are cordially invited to visit any of the Circles, and determine which group fits her time schedule and needs. United Methodist Women welcomes with "open hearts and open arms" all who come our way. For more information or to join the United Methodist Women please contact Marce Warner at warnerjr1@cox.net, or at 225-928-8653.
