Community Events
First Church supports a number of community events, outreach and civic organizations, and ministries through volunteer support and the use of our building as a meeting place.
Alcoholics Anonymous
First Church opens its doors to a number of twelve-step programs. The meeting times are: Fridays at 8:00 PM, Tuesdays at 12:00 Noon and Thursdays at 12:00 Noon.
Kairos Prison Ministry
Church members are active in providing the love of Christ to residents at both Angola Penitentiary for men and the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women at St. Gabriel. Retreats are held several times a year for residents who have not attended a Kairos weekend. Reunions and prayer-and-share groups meet on a weekly basis.
Christian Outreach Center
In cooperation with other churches in the downtown area, First United Methodist provides financial and volunteer support for this ministry that provides emergency assistance to people traveling through our area, and to the homeless.
Food Bank of Greater Baton Rouge
In addition to monetary support, members of the First Church family often work at the Food Bank, sorting food or helping out in the garden.
Salvation Army
The doors opened in Baton Rouge in 1905 and since that time coutless lives have been impacted by the minstries of Salvation Army. First Church volunteers help with bell ringing and other volunteer efforts throughout the year.
