Invitation to the Old Testament
An eight week study that grows out of Disciple series, but offers a different approach. Invitation is designed to examine a number of interpretive perspectives on the Old Testament. In hearing the many voices, those taking the study are invited to consider the claims the voices make on our lives, and on God’s behalf. One of the foundational assumptions of this study is that the stories of God’s people in the Hebrew Scriptures are our stories, too. This will be a conversation more than a class, and participants are invited to ask questions and struggle with the challenges scripture presents to us. Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 8, 6:45-8:00 p.m. Led by Rev. Brad. Cost $12
Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m.
This weekly class considers the practice of living faithfully. A person can start attending at any time and there is minimal or no preparation. The course meets from September to May. Wednesday evenings, led by Rev. Chris Andrews.
Reading Scripture as Wesleyans
John Wesley inhaled and exhaled the words of Scripture, shaping his thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and behavior. In this invitation to Scripture, the general editor of the Wesley Study Bible, Dr. Joel Green, summarizes Wesley’s understanding of key themes and topics of key books of the New Testament. In this class, we will study and discuss the importance of Wesley’s thinking as it directly applies to everyday life and faithful practice. Sundays, 4:30pm-6:00pm September 12th, 19th, 26th
Led by Rev. Katie McKay Simpson.
Invitation to Genesis
Wednesdays, 9:30-11:30 AM, beginning Sept. 8. Led by AJ Meek. Cost $12. This 8-week study approaches the Book of Genesis not simply as a story of the beginning but as a story of beginnings from start to finish. Through the study, participants will be invited to listen afresh to the witness of this opening book of the Hebrew Bible and to understand more clearly God’s purpose in beginning to form a people with the likes of Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, and Jacob and Esau.
