Christian Parenting
Blueprints from God
The Ministry of Spiritual Formation offers an excellent six-week parenting program, Blueprints from God , for couples with children two to ten years of age. This course explores real life issues as they relate to Christian discipleship. At the end of the course couples will have established a family model for good Christian parenting. Our Blueprints course is now a pilot program in the Louisiana Methodist Conference. It is currently being offered at First United Methodist Church in Thibodeaux, LA. Other churches will offer the course during the spring. Pictured to the left are representatives who participated in the training session.
Building Happy, Healthy Family Relationships
Christian parents face the difficult task of raising children in a busy, demanding world. In the past, children grew up in a society that clearly defined what was right and what was wrong. Parents were recognized as the primary authority figure in their children's lives. Today parents face a widening circle of outside influences and concerns; therefore it is important that parents communicate often and impart Christian values to their children.
Being a Christian parent is one of the most important responsibilities in this world. So much is riding on how parents choose to integrate Christianity into their family system, therefore parents must continue to develop and deepen their own spiritual life.
Here are a few suggestions that can build happy, healthy and spiritual relationships.
• Family Meetings: Family meetings can help parents and children stay close and connected: solving problems, sharing stories, giving compliments and sharing faith are important elements in bonding and building community.
• Prayer: Prayer is important for spiritual growth and personal development. Praying together opens the door for scriptural and spiritual understanding. Praying together makes God personal and real.
• Love and Respect: Love and respect for each member of your family is most important. It is essential that parents and children spend quality time together daily so that love and respect can be expressed freely and spontaneously.
• Self-examination: Parents must examine their character and motives on a regular basis. Children learn by example. When children experience and witness godly attitudes in their parents' lives, they will model and incorporate what they see and hear.
• Safe and Secure: Christian homes need to be safe, secure, and happy places. Parents must continually strive to fill their homes with respect, love, and praise, and witness to the good news of God’s love for all people.
