In its broadest sense spiritual formation is God’s Spirit at work in the gathered community, where basic Christian virtues and the teachings of Jesus Christ are cultivated, shared and lived. In an individual sense, spiritual formation is more focused upon one’s personal relationship with Christ and the deepening aspects of that relationship. In this context, First United Methodist is pleased to be able to offer one-on-one spiritual direction as well as small group spiritual guidance. Both types of spiritual companionship are facilitated or guided by a certified spiritual director. The Ministry of Spiritual Formation also offers other small group covenant experiences focusing on traditional spiritual practices and principles.
Other offerings include time away for personal retreat, services of worship and prayer, speakers, and various workshops and programs designed to enhance spiritual development.
