Getting to Know Each Other
We are a community of people helping each other grow in love of God, ourselves and others and we’re passionate about inviting your family to be a part of ours.
OUR MISSION» making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world
OUR STRATEGY» going and finding those seeking God but not connected to the Church, and invite them to know God by following Jesus
What does this mean for you? Most importantly, you’re always welcome at First Methodist. We’re saving a seat for you. Wherever you’re at in your faith journey, you’ll always be accepted as part of the First Methodist family. We know going to a new church for the first time can be nerve-racking. We want to help make your first experience at First Methodist a great one!
What Can I Expect?
We have four worship services each Sunday morning and our dress code is black tie optional. Just kidding.
We know that visiting a new church can often be intimidating so don’t worry, we won’t ask you to raise your hand as our guest or do anything that will embarrass or single you out in any way. Coffee is on us and each of our services lasts for about 60 minutes.
We are more concerned with people’s hearts than what they are wearing. Feel free to wear what you want, whether that’s a suit or shorts. The only thing that may be questionable would be an Alabama Crimson Tide t-shirt–Geaux Tigers!
Here Are Some Details About Sundays at First

8:30, 9:45 & 11:00 AM | Currently held in the gym
Our more traditional worship experience where we sing United Methodist hymns with our choir and pianist. This service often features guest musicians and Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of every month. The service lasts approximately one hour and currently meets in the gym, while our sanctuary is under construction.
The America Street Service
9:45 AM | Joe Dean Court- 3rd Floor of the Youth Building
A contemporary service in a more intimate setting. The culture of this service is casual and relaxed. This service features the America Street Band leading songs of praise- song lyrics are projected onto the screens so you can sing along and/or engage with worship however you feel most comfortable. The service lasts approximately one hour and meets at 9:45 AM on the third floor of the Youth Building. Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of every month.
Where Do I Park?
We have three parking lots on our campus.
The largest parking lot has visitor spots reserved just for you! It’s located on America Street and has entrances on East Blvd and Maximillian Street, too. From the parking lot you can enter our building through the America Street entrance, which takes you directly to our Information Station and Children’s Check-in!
What About My Kids?
Well, that is entirely up to you! We love and encourage children to attend service with their parents. Your wiggly, squiggly, boisterous, talkative, curious (and even crying) children are always welcome! We also understand if you need “grown-up” time during worship.
Make your way to the Children’s Check-in Area located in the America Street entrance lobby. Our team will need a few minutes to register your child and get them started on a great Sunday experience. Our Children’s Ministry Director, Sirena Brock, walks you through how to check your child in in the video below.
Nursery | 6 weeks-Kindergarten
