Homelessness in Baton Rouge is a pressing issue. Approximately 400 individuals daily were looking for a shelter bed as of September 2024. Many face food insecurity, especially on weekends. A mobile breakfast service on Sunday mornings can fill this gap by delivering meals to various locations, ensuring sustenance when other resources are unavailable.
The van serves breakfast burritos and hot coffee on Sunday mornings. We also give away lunch including 2 sandwiches, 2 boiled eggs, chips, cookies, fruit, and a drink. Additionally, we have socks and long-sleeved t-shirts to give away. And we provide some basic health services like band aids and Neosporin. Each van feeds approximately 65 individuals and costs around $710 per daily run.
