Today’s scripture reading is Matthew 6:25-34. We often read this portion of the Sermon on the Mount and think Jesus is talking about worry in general. But he is being much more specific than that. What he points out is our tendency to worry about our daily provisions — food, clothing, etc. For people today, these worries manifest primarily as worry about money — can I pay the mortgage, the grocery bill, will I be secure in retirement, etc.? Jesus instructs us not to worry about these things instead tells us to keep our focus on God. Just as God provides for birds and flowers, God will provide for you.
