Our scripture reading comes from Habakkuk 3:17-19. We too often think that a sign of God’s presence and favor is when things are going well. We praise God for good weather and success! But things don’t always go well. And when they don’t we often see it as a sign of God’s absence or disfavor — “Where are you God?” But is this an accurate understanding of our circumstances and God? The writer of Habakkuk points us to a different kind of faith, a faith that praises God, loves God, and trusts God even when things are going badly. Oh that we might have this kind of faith.
