John 3:16 is one of the most well-known and beloved verses in the Bible. “God so loved the world . . .” Some call it a summation of the whole Gospel. But right after this beautiful proclamation of God’s love, John talks about “condemnation” for those who do not believe. What are we to make of this? Is God a God of love, or a God of condemnation? Is the Gospel a threat, or a promise of deliverance? By exploring this passage we’ll seek to gain a better understanding of the gospel and why it is the best news ever.
